[Ti...]
When I first began using GOM 2021, I had to update about 50 programs for many issues, but a large issue was measuring datum features as Guassian and then creating Datum Systems using GDT. It took me a long time to get the CT scans to the quality that I could venture into using ASME for any Datum creation. I still prefer Guassian most of the time. A couple things I would like to mention: 1) The default for when you Create Datum System should be Geometry... why? Because the programmer created the datum feature using a certain math type, so the odds of changing that math type is very low. 2) I don't think there should be any Computation mode in the Create Datum System... why? Because all you have to do is create another datum feature, like CYL_A_ASME, and use that.
[Ax...]
Although I don't work with ASME, but with ISO, I can agree with you that some alignments aren't aligned in practice even with standardized calculations. However, I rarely use Gaussian to calculate the geometries for alignment on my components. I usually only adjust the surface selection. After all, standards exist to improve the comparability of measurement reports. If everyone does something different, the comparison doesn't become any easier. However, it's often also due to the definition of the datums system on the drawing; perhaps technical draftsmen need training in this area.
