Removing a model from the program and merging multiple models into one

Hello everyone,

I have a problem with deleting a CAD model in the program.

First method: I delete the model in the program hierarchy, close the program, save it and open it, but the model is still active.

Second method: In CAD-VIEW-DELETE, I delete the model and close the program, save it and open it, but the model is still active.

Third method: Modify CAD elements-Modify bodies-Edit-Delete body, delete the model and close the program, save it and open it, but the model is still active.

If I have more models, there will always be one that cannot be deleted.

The only method to delete a CAD model is to delete the files directly in the program folder, which is very clumsy.

Another problem concerns merging models. If I create a program and insert multiple models, they merge into one when I save and close the program and they can no longer be manipulated and behave as one whole. Only one CAD model is visible in the hierarchy.

Not a single thing makes sense to me why this is so?

It worked in the previous version of CALYPS.

Thanks a lot for the insights and ideas

Don't all of these file extensions need to be deleted?

Do you realize that probably 90% of Zeiss programmers do not know about this hidden nugget (including myself until three minutes ago)?  This is fantastic.

It's a much needed solution to an annoyance in Calypso.  Thanks for sharing about it.

I love interacting on these forums with other Zeiss users and finding out truths inside Calypso that were there all along.

It is in all programs where a CAD model has been inserted or has already been inserted.
This happens in the new Calypso 7.8, in the previous version it was possible to delete models, now one always remains there.

Regarding the merging of models, these are separate models (not Entity models), which merge themselves only after the program is saved and closed, after that the models cannot be manipulated separately, e.g. color, etc.

I also noticed that you have *.step files, we have *.sat files. So if this is not the problem?

One more thing, merging models into one always happens when a strategy is edited or a new one is created, if the old program is opened and the strategy is not edited, the models will remain separate. Tested on a few programs today.

There is an error in the link :(.

Yes, this is the only way I've found to delete a model.

Glad you found it helpful! I couldn't agree more, so many little things buried within the software and the forums are a great place to bring them to light. 😀

The steps in CALYPSO: Merged CAD Entities should prevent the merging of CAD in my experience. However I see the same as you when trying to delete a model in CALYPSO 7.8 & 8.0. I will escalate this to the CALYPSO Dev Team in hopes for a cleaner resolution in a future Service Pack update

Charlie Turch Thanks, that'll be great.
I'm glad I can contribute to the development fix.

It's a shame I didn't think to join this forum sooner, it would have solved a lot of our problems.

Here is the feedback I received.

It is normal behavior for CALYPSO to not permanently delete the CAD model upon closing and reopening of a measurement plan after "Deleting" using CAD > View > Delete and/or CAD > Modify CAD Entities > Hierarchy > Delete. These tools are meant to be used for replacing a model, not permanently "deleting". They are used to temporarily clear the existing CAD giving one the ability to load the new, modified model and save the measurement plan in that moment. This will overwrite the existing model.sab file with said new model.

If one wishes to permanently delete a model from an existing measurement plan without loading a new model, you must manually delete the "model.sab" or "model.sat" file in the measurement plan directory; this is the only way to permanently remove the model.

Hope this helps on your end.

Takže způsob, jakým jsi to napsal, dává smysl. Jak říkám: "Více hlav, více znalostí :)"

Díky za zpětnou vazbu
