How can I select an area on the surface within a closed surface curve?

I investigate the wear facet on a mesh. I successfully outlined the wear facet on the mesh by using the surface curve function with the snap on the max curvature. Then I need to select this area to make surface comparison to a plane fitted on the unworn plane surfaces. It is very painful that I have to manually select the area within the facet every time, even though it is already encircled.

Hey Janos,

what kind of result do you aiming for?

Did i understand it right that you want to create an surface comparison only to the area of the wear facet of teh part?

Best regrets

Or alternatively you could use the curve to cut your actual mesh into two parts (via  Operations->Mesh->Other->Cut Actual Mesh By Curve). Afterwards you can use select patch on your inner area. But be careful, afterwards you have two independent patches similar as you have on CAD.

Disclaimer 1: If you have some Creation Command for your mesh (e.g. polygonization parameter etc.) then afterwards they will get lost.

Disclaimer 2: If you have some commands that only works on a single patch they will not work on the hole mesh anymore.

What are the best approach for your current problem depends on the further inspection that you will fulfill on your project
