How to Measure Crack Length for Each Frame?

Hello everyone,

I am new to ZEISS Correlate and would like to ask whether the software can measure crack length frame by frame from captured images during a test.

I have a sequence of images with a clear crack path. I know the fixed starting reference point, and I can visually identify the crack tip moving in each frame.

What I want to achieve:

  • Define one fixed reference point that remains constant in all frames.
  • Define one moving point (crack tip) that the software automatically tracks across all frames.
  • Have ZEISS automatically calculate and export the distance between these two points for each frame (crack length vs time).

It would be very helpful if someone could recommend the workflow in ZEISS Correlate to set up this measurement and explain how to export the distance values for all frames as CSV/Excel.

Thanks in advance!

Best regards,

Khawaritzmi

Hello Ahmad,

There is actually an app in our software store that you can download and run. It detects the crack tip and the script follows it.

Here: ZEISS Quality Software Store

As you can see:

Then find the desired inspection (length of the crack tip) on the left side of the explorer.
You can then export it by selecting it and going to “File -> Export -> Step Data” and then exporting it.

Best regards
Mohamed

Hi Mohamed,

Thank you for your reply and help!

I have installed Crack Analysis v1.2.6 via ZEISS Quality Suite → Applications → Add Configuration (see screenshots). I then launch ZEISS INSPECT 2025 with that configuration, but I can’t find where to open or run the app inside INSPECT.

Could you please share a step-by-step guide on:

  1. Where the Crack Analysis tool appears in INSPECT (exact menu or path to launch it).
  2. How to use the Crack Analysis tool in INSPECT.
  3. How to start crack-tip detection on an image sequence and set the fixed reference point and moving crack tip.
  4. Any notes on version/licensing (I’m using INSPECT 2025 Correlate - Free).

If you have any tutorial, documentation, or screenshots showing the workflow, that would help me a lot.

Best regards,
Ahmad
