Grouping items in Patterns

When using a pattern on a set of features A,B,C, calypso will gather A1, A2, A3, B1, B2, B3  I would like to gather A1,B1,A2,B2.  Simply putting the features into a group and adding the pattern to the group still iterates over each feature fully before moving onto the next.  Is there a way to do that? 

Id like to only have to rotate to each angle once instead of 'running laps' around the part

It sounds like the best approach for this is to use sort features for navigation option in Calypso
