[To...]
Got a new pc from Zeiss with 7.8 pre-loaded. Normally, I would just copy the config folder, along with the work area folder, from the old computer to the new one. Does this still fly?
[Ri...]
I believe so. I haven't ran into any issues doing that at the moment. The only issue I've ran into was back in the 5.x days when we switched from Windows XP 32bit to Windows 7 64bit - I was unable to use a machine configuration in that use case. [Pa...]
Hey I'm going through some real pain doing just what Tom is doing. Help me out a little - What's in the two folders, where are they, and what will they prevent me from doing the hard way? I've updated one of 4 machines. Had to pull in .PCF files one at a time. Had to re-locate all 25 MSR pockets, change approach directions, set change clearances for each. Had to rebuild all three reference spheres. Had to rebuild all file paths, user accounts, base alignments all gone... The list goes on. I'll look like a hero if you can save me any of this work. [Ke...]
Pat, Go to Extras-Settings-Miscellaneous-System, in there youll find option to save and restore a backup (the naming varies a bit from version to version), but with this you should be able to create a .bak file, which you can then use the same menu to load after update. This information and other information regarding ways and files to backup can be found on the Knowledgebase, I believe at least one of the articles is on the opening page as a “most used” (on mobile so I cant access the Knowledgebase currently), seqrching for terms like “backup” or “update” should find them
[Ky...]
It's hard to tell, really. I don't know the last time (if I had ever) upgraded from 6.4 to 7.8 specifically. If you have access to the licenses that would work, I might recommend an "intermediate" update. E.g. install, say, 7.0 or something around there, put in the config/workarea, etc and then open up that version and connect to the machine tab. From there you can update to 7.8 or whatever with more confidence. When I have to update to anything more than 5 years, I consider doing that, though as Richard said I am not entirely sure how necessary it is in more recent versions (I have had to update from like 5.6 to 6.4 or something before and that was... not fun). The problem, at least with Tom's original post is if he has any licenses relevant for 7.0 (or whatever version), considering the change to Thales means that 7.8 licenses can't activate those earlier versions. You can also try Kevin's method, but I haven't tested it personally in this situation.
[To...]
Please sign in to view this username. The config and workarea folders are in C:\users\public\documents\Zeiss\Calypso\ Note: if multiple versions are installed, replace Calypso with Calypso x.x, where x.x represents the last version installed. (i think). Replace those folders on the new install with the folders from the old install. Edited November 14
[Ky...]
I usually reference the knowledge base article I made for finding the location of the config and workarea. There are multiple things that can affect that. https://portal.zeiss.com/knowledge-base?id=442607
