[La...]
I was doing some research on dynamic tensor vs tensor when qualifying stylus systems. I would like to know more about the differences in detail to make sure I correctly understand the way they function and the applications for both. From what I have read so far on the Calypso online help documentation, tensor qualification will get the position, diameter, and the statistic bending characteristics, but while reading about dynamic tensor I am still a tad confused and wanted more clarification on this. [Ma...]
I think dynamic will try two probing forces. At least i see this on our ( 200mN / 1000mN ). I hope this is correct - never done another method
[To...]
As Martin stated, tensor applies two probing forces to determine the bending properties of a stylus. Dynamic Tensor performs a Tensor qualification first, then performs the Dynamic portion by scanning around and over the reference sphere at 5mm/sec, then again at 50mm/sec to determine the influence of momentum on the machine. It is my understanding that Dynamic was introduced to facilitate faster scanning speeds on the larger diameters. I am not sure if Dynamic was intended to be used on smaller diameters.

So, if I do not perform dynamic tensor while qualifying a stylus, does that mean I shouldn't do any high speed scanning with said stylus?
[La...]
Please sign in to view this quote. Thank you for the reply. From what I've read and what Tom has told me in the replies, it seems dynamic tensor is used for high speed scanning. Typically whenever I qualify probes I only use tensor instead of dynamic. [To...]
Please sign in to view this quote. Without defining exactly what "high speed" is, I don't know. Tensor can still scan rather quickly. The issue with dynamic is the angle setting of the reference sphere. If you're trying to do a star probe, the reference sphere position needs to be adjusted so the stylus has a full 360° access at the equator. I believe there is a solution using a virtual reference sphere but I don't know how.

[Ma...]
My understanding is that Dynamic is used to collect “bend data”, how much the stylus is deflecting during scanning. It only needs to be done once when first calibrating the tip, subsequent calibrations you can use Tensor, since it has already collected that data. Obviously, if you change the tip, you would need to run Dynamic Calibration again.
[Vo...]
Would I run into any issues if I didn't use dynamic tensor when qualifying a brand new stylus system? I typically don't use dynamic tensor, but was curious if not using it is an issue? [Ri...]
You will need to have each stylus set up to navigate around the Reference Sphere at a full 180°. This means you may need several Reference Spheres or move and set the "Ref. sphere position" for each new orientation.
