GD&T Engine & Bore Patterns

Hi everybody,

What are your recommendations on using the new GD&T Position with Bore Patterns? There's no Bore Pattern icon like the regular Position characteristic. It looks like you can pattern the holes at the feature level and it will accept the pattern as a feature in the GD&T engine, but what if you can't pattern the holes in Calypso because it's not a symmetrical pattern? I'm also not a fan of patterned holes in general because I like to have the holes individual for ease of editing and not having nested features.

Thank you all for your insight.

I had help from a zeiss applications engineer setting this up, i initially tried a pattern feature but it was not working correctly, think it had something to do with the nominals not calculating correctly. But basically you would create a position for each feature in the bore pattern and set all of them up as a simultaneous requirement.

Thanks for the reply, Dustin. I haven't gotten into the SIM REQ yet but that makes sense. So essentially you will have individual GDT positions and those characteristics can be used for the SIM REQ. Do you just Mask the individual positions in the report, as they aren't actually called out that way?

Glad they added the GD&T engine. I like that you can view what's going on with the constraints it's applying. Now I just need to learn how to use it. 🙃

So, if you only want to see the overall largest result of the bore pattern, like kinda what the old best fit bore pattern did (though I believe it showed you each one individually), then yeah, use the hide function in PiWeb (see https://portal.zeiss.com/knowledge-base?id=1128721, just masking it doesn't work so well any more), and then use the maximum result characteristic (size>more>maximum result) to show the largest actual value out of all of those characteristics.
