How to analyze circle diameter within a script

I'm cutting a section thru a cone. I'm using a plane that is perpendicular to the cone's axis to create the section. On that section, I create a fitting circle, using the minimum circumscribed option. I need to check the diameter of the circle and, if not at a certain value, move the cutting section up or down (and re-cut the section) until the desired circle diameter is achieved.

I'm a beginner with python.  How do I check the diameter of a circle element within a script?
