Common Stylus Configurations

We have an XXT and currently mostly have straight down stylus. The theory of those who made this decision was that it would be easier since we could rotate the head and wouldn't need a bunch of stylus configurations to approach parts and different angles. However with all the space needed for the arm to rotate and come in from the sides, there have been situations when I think a star or L configuration would be better. But I have never tried to make one of these and don't know what I need. We do have a very small star probe, but it came all as one piece. 

Could I please see photos of configurations that you use often as well as what components are needed to make them?

Just understand the limits of the XXT and you are OK. 🙂
