Filtering a cylinder

I'm have a cylinder Datum Ø .084" x 0.5". My strategy uses a helix path. Normally for a cylinder of this size I would use 2 or 3 circle

paths and apply a Gauss filter at 15upr. But now that I'm scanning a helix rather than circles should I change the filter method to spline?
