Am I missing something in Calypso? I need to use pattern for rotation only but how?

If you are using the new GD&T engine Datum C would be a Common Datum, you will see the button inside of the feature selection.

If you are creating this via the legacy GD&T engine you will need to create a Bore Pattern Best Fit - when Calypso creates a BPBF it will create a new alignment for you that you can use for other characteristics.

Richard, I'm using the latest version of Calypso and I don't see that option. Am I looking in the wrong place?

Jack,

What do you select when you go to select one of the Datums with the new Engine?

I am not seeing common datum anywhere in base alignment or true position. I am using version 8.

I'm curious:  why do you need to set up a rotational pattern for the base alignment?

The purpose of a base alignment is primarily to facilitate navigation of your probing system and provide basic stability for the measurement plan. Typically, secondary alignments and features utilize rotational patterns for position characteristics.

I agree with Jeff. I honestly use the base alignment more as a start alignment. I never use it in any characteristics. I'd just use one of the holes for C datum for the base alignment, then refine it properly later.

I really do not have to use it as base alignment. I still need to use for true position of other features. How do I set datum B as zero and use a datum C pattern for rotation only? Using datum C as best fit does not hold datum B as zero.
