Load a SolidWorks model (.SLDPRT)

Hello everyone,

For a test, I need to load an .SLDPRT file in Calypso. However, I can't load it because I keep getting a message saying that the option is not available.

We don’t use SolidWorks, so I assume I simply don’t have the license for this, right?
Does anyone know if there are time-limited trial licenses available for this and where to get them (Support, Sales, etc.)?

Thanks in advance.

Hello,

You can try to save the .SLDPRT file as .STEP file and Calypso will be able to read it.

Are you sure? As far as I know Calypso can only read SAT/SAB and possibly DXF (?) without an additional license. Everything else needs an option license.

That's correct—STEP is a licensed format, just like CATIA and others. SAT and SAB are the only royalty-free formats. I'm not sure about DXF.

I can't make any changes to the file.

So I think I need a trial license. Is that available, and where can I get one?

Hello Nicolaj,

I would recommend reaching out to your ZEISS Aftermarket Sales contact.

The issue lies in the filetype of .SLDWRK, it's a simple workaround.

Download an opensource cad program (FreeCAD, Fusion, Inventor, there are many) and simply open and then save the file as a .step, .sab, or my personal favorite .ap203 (removes all the fluff).

If this is still not an option, there are browser-web based alternatives that will convert your file format for you.

Please use 214 over 203. 203 doesn't retain colors/bodies, so if you have an assembly it will look like a mess.

I've noticed this before but never investigated why.  My smooth brain logic was that 214 is bigger so it must be better.
