Altering alignments by each stage

Is there a way to manually change the alignment of multiple changes? My prealignment gets me to close to where I need to be, but each part is off slightly. I can easily fix one stage via the "set Matrix" alignment, but this hurts all the other alignments. Is there a way to use the "Set Matrix" alignment on each stage individually?

How specific is that prealignment mismatch?

I had no luck to fix prealignment on almost symmetric or rotary model.
Would simple bestfit help?
Like:

  • do prealignment
  • bestfit of selected part of a mesh based on prealignment
  • next alignments based on bestfit.

Hi,

the alignment is applied to each stage. Maybe an alignment after the prealignment helps to refine it, like Martin proposed? 

It is possible to prepare an alignment during measurement, which helps for symmetric parts for examle: https://techguide.zeiss.com/en/zeiss-inspect-2026/article/how_to_create_initial_alignment_for_stage_projects.html

The original alignment ("as measured") would be defined as initial alignment in that case.

It would be possible to use a single element transformation (ZEISS Quality Tech Guide) per stage and use 'original alignment as initial alignment', but this is a manual process.

Thanks for the fast reply. More information + pictures are below.

The highlighted area on the CAD is what's not aligning. Its a non continuous flange. I can create a section that only grabs this region (via creating a section from a cylinder), but am trying to figure out how to use this to get a point (or any other element) to translate from the nominal section to actual section. As I understand this, once I have that, I can use to align my parts.

Is there any way to create a point that is taken at the point furthest from another point or element? Like an inverse caliper?

That can be done by bestfit after prealignment.

Select from side a rectangular area on mesh and use constraint to allow only rotation in correct axis.

I was testing cylindrical section, but it had mediocre results.

Hi Anders,

some ideas that worked in the past with similar parts:

  •  best-fit with selection of the flange with rotational constraint around the cylinder axis
  • using the section from the screenshot -> Local Best-Fit by nominal elements
  • section parallel to the flange plane through the highlighted area (use a selection all around, so the actual part is cut at any position) -> create a curve curvature (ZEISS Quality Tech Guide) -> create point of max. curvature (ZEISS Quality Tech Guide). It should be at the sharp radius of the flange (lower arrow9
  • with this function https://techguide.zeiss.com/en/zeiss-inspect-2026/article/cmd_primitive_create_point_by_curve_surface_intersection.html you might get the intersection points from a circle with the small surfaces of the gap (upper arrow)
    • circle would be around the axis of your part through the gap's surfaces along the circumference, just as an example of the function:

Not sure it helps here, but there is a function 'create deviation to geometry' (ZEISS Quality Tech Guide) you can create a maximum label on, or on any kind of 'colored' distance like continuous curve distance.
