What exactly is the edge point doing?

Im updating many programs from a previous programmer that were not done well.

I use stable features to find intersection points.

I'm seeing a lot of these 'edge points' and it seems you should click on a section line but that point appears white in the dialoge obviously bc it is a non-parametric point. So what about this mysterious edge point makes sense to use?  I just don't see it as a reliable and proper approach?

If I an wrong and there is a use case, I would enjoy learning when to use it.  I deal with tight tolerances many times at +-0.05mm so I just can't see how this feature is appropriate in that world.

Thanks.

Hi Tim , do you have an image of the feature and what is being used to evaluate? If we are talking the same thing  ' edge points' are most commonly used in the evaluation of grey value features such as slots and holes in sheet metal.   Your tolerances are extremely tight and for sure even the most well set up program would pose challenges to validate.   Grey value features by their nature will not be as well defined so very unlikely to be appropriate for the tolerance mentioned .
