The new centralized Zeiss Quality Forum begins soon (November 2024)!

Hello everyone.

I just wanted to highlight the fact that Zeiss is launching the new centralized Zeiss Quality Forum in November. I'm not sure if it goes live immediately on Nov. 1st or sometime in November, but you can read the original post here:

viewtopic.php?t=13104

I'm bringing visibility to it here because this topic gets the majority of traffic, and it was posted under a lesser-used topic (an illustration in actual versus nominal 😹).

The new format looks terrific. I applaud Zeiss for launching it and the fine people from Zeiss Inspect, formerly GOM, for hosting. It appears that our discussions and historical info will be migrated to the new site, and initial registration was a breeze.

I love the centralized forum's well-organized, visually lean format. It feels like sitting in a comfy living room that is clean and relaxing. Now if a Zeiss barista could serve me a warm slice of strudel with coffee, I'd be all set 🥮.

This will likely feel like a big transition for many of us longtime forum users (it is). I see this as an excellent opportunity to grow as a community and welcome new users. Ultimately, it is the people, the knowledge exchange, and relationships that make a forum community special. I'm grateful to be a part of the Calypso community, and I look forward to seeing you all on the new centralized forum.

Thanks Zeiss, thanks Jeff.

Just wanted to post what made me laugh the first time I opened the new forum, without being logged in.

In Italian - Si means yes and No means No.

Nice! We use the Metrotom 6 Scout as well and recently upgraded to Zeiss Inspect X-ray 2023, it has a lot of good stuff. Do you do any scripting with the software?

I haven't got into the scripting yet. We are slowly getting thru all the "one-off inspections with our new shiny toy" phase. I have 3d printed some fixturing for repeat inspections but have yet to attempt any scripting with the software.

The scripting is done in Python, and pretty powerful stuff. I have some pretty cool scripts I created that might be helpful depending on the type of work you do. I developed a script that separates all of the parts into individual parts, renames them to their sample number and then exports each automatically to a folder of your choice. Its great for part traceability when you are scanning 20+ parts at once.

If you have any questions about the software, or cool ideas, let me know! The CT world is small so finding another Metrotom user in the wild is awesome!

Like you said, it is very nice to find another Metrotom user on here. You will most certainly be seeing some CT questions from me at some point. It sounds like you have taken to this tool quite a bit better than I have.

Curious to hear your opinion on the machine/software? Is it meeting your expectations? Accuracy/Repeatability? It is slowly growing on me. The biggest hurdle was the Zeiss Inspect X-ray software initially. It's obviously quite different than calypso, but im slowly learning.

Were you required and/or able to get a UL Cert when you had the machine installed?

The machine is very good for plastics and light metals (aluminum, great success with titanium). We purchased Zeiss Inspect X-ray 2023 and have the latest service packs (up to 4 I think) and it is very impressive. There is a lot to learn and Zeiss has done a good job with the Knowledge Center or whatever its called. I cut my teeth on Calypso, and still actively program with it. You will come to love CT because there is no necessary fixture unless you really want it. The alignment happens in the software. One crazy thing with the new Inspect X-ray 2023 software is you can take a volume, polygonise it, make the mesh into a CAD, align the CAD to the global axis with a Pre-alignment 3-2-1, and then align the initial volume to the CAD you just made. This is nice for clipping through a volume in a normal axis.

Since our machine is compromised of almost all parts manufactured by X-ray Worx out of Germany, they have a state side partner that we deal with for parts etc. They are very good. We found that it is of the utmost importance for the inside tube to be clean and free from dust. Even the slightest amount of dust will degrade performance over 200kv. Go to X-ray Worx website and the section about downloading manuals, etc. Email them and they will give you a temp user name and password to login to their FTP server and get anything you want related to our machine. I upgraded our X-COM utility version to the latest and greatest, all free of charge.

We do have a certificate from the state department of environmental protection to operate our X-ray. We get it every year.

CT is the future of NDI, and will only get more prevalent as the cost comes down.

Well, they were serving coffee with milk on top shaped into some Zeiss logo or text (can't remember exaclty) during the last IMTS trade show so there is always of possibility of that!

.

Very nice.

Was the coffee being served at LMC or MMC? That would be a case of bonus being assigned as the feature departs from LMC.
