Wasted Time Trying to Assign User Defined Header Variables

.

I just wasted a bunch of time trying to assign user-defined header variables for PiWeb only to discover that the "save" button is clipped offscreen due to the resolution settings on my computer. This is easily remedied if PiWeb and Calypso would allow resizing of more of the UI elements and scroll bars for when elements will not fit in the predefined window. However, it's just another example of how PiWeb lets me down on a daily basis. I am so sick of this software, and I wish Zeiss would create something better and more in-tune with modern UI and user needs for reporting.

That is shockingly bad...

Why can't it just simply have a save button in the window? I'm sure I'm not the only person who was concerned the first few times I edited those.

The resolution scaling(or lack there of) is annoying....especially since a recent upgrade to ultrawide monitors as standard here in our office. As a workaround, does ctrl+s save in that window the way it does for much the rest of Calypso?

I'm not sure if this would help in any way, but I remember that when I briefly had to use a 4k monitor and resolution scaling would not play nicely, I would go to the properties of every exe in the calypso folder, and change the compatibility / Change high DPI settings / Override / System (enhanced)

This would take care of some of the issues I've been having. Maybe its not applicable anymore as I got rid of 4k years ago and in the meantime stuff probably changed. At least I would hope so. Calypso, and by extension PiWeb, should have a very good scaling for High DPI monitors. Image acquisition and analysis is pretty important part of it, after all.

Hey Jeff,
I'm not sure if we're talking about the same thing but I've never seen a Save button in the User Fields Editor. The first time I was working with user defined variables, I looked for a save function and couldn't find one. I figured they were saved automatically. However, when I closed the window and it prompted me to save it then. Is this the window you're referring to?

I do agree that more control is needed.

Old school users still just modify the .ini file via a text editor. Hahaha. I learned about the GUI a few years ago, and while it is convenient, the text editor is superior (especially when you need to sort a list or just make massive changes to a list in general).

True! But the mapping wasn't part of the original ini files until after you mapped them in the gui.

If you aren't aware of it, I strongly recommend Notepad++. It is extremely versatile for numerous applications because of its built in features and languages (such as Fortran, C++, etc), as well as the ability to load in language packs created by others, such as a PCM pack that used to be floating on this forum somewhere

I learned about Notepad++ when we got our new Conturas, but it wasn't available on any other PC in my company. That has changed recently, so I might start using it some day. But right now I still feel more comfortable with good old "no-bells-and-whistles" Notepad.
