[BR...]
Good morning, I just got my CMM (contura) recalibrated and it passed with flying colors. The issue is I went to check my part and the second part I went to check did not work out. The probe would stop right before contact with the part and then start drifting away. I went to recalibrate the probe and an error popped up when I loaded the masterprobe. attached are the pics. So i tried to still run the masterprobe on the reference sphere and this second message popped up. If anyone has seen this before I could use some help on fixing the issue.IMG_5891[1].JPGIMG_5890[1].JPG
[Ky...]
Hello Brad, I have seen similar issues before. Unfortunately, the exact description is making me think something hardware related with the probe head (especially the message about the weight, usually it means that there is something interfering with the spring that measures that weight), but there are a couple things I can recommend at least to begin with: 1. Make sure everything is clean. This includes the probe tip and the reference sphere, but also the connectors between the probe head and the stylus (so the top of the plate on the stylus and the bottom of the probe head). If this is an RDS with an XXT, it might be worth cleaning the connection between the XXT and the RDS as well, if you know how. 2. Is this an VAST XXT? If it is, there should be a black ring towards the top of the probe head with some raised ridges. Make sure that is tight. It doesn't have to be excessively tight or anything, just enough to be roughly thumb tight. Also make sure the reference sphere is not loose or anything like that. 3. We can try resetting the MasterProbe (see https://portal.zeiss.com/knowledge-base?id=714094 for instructions on that). Note that this will cause you to need to requalify everything, but if we are stuck in the water anyway, we aren't any worse off. If none of those things help, I would recommend putting in a ticket for our hardware team.
[BR...]
thank you for the info. Everything is definitely clean. Yes, it is an XXT. Literally just got calibrated wednesday and passed and i ran a part on it sunday morning with no issues. Now it also wont drop off stylus's into the rack. The z level seems to be to high when it goes to stylus change.

[Ja...]
Make sure you selecting the name of your master probe and not a master probe that they may have had.
[Cr...]
I've had multiple years where just after a machine calibration I'd have these errors come up. Not so much on the master probe, but on other probes. Zeiss could not figure it out. I figured something got corrupted during calibration. The fix I found was to delete the probe and recreate it. [De...]
not sure about the weight issue, but id check the radius value on the master probe and also make sure you are selecting the correct sphere. If the radius of the master probe is not right, then change it to nominal and make absolute sure you have the correct s/n sphere when locating the master. if you choose a smaller sphere the radius will be way out and will stop above the sphere and drift.
