Curve basics for User getting back to Calypso

Hi all!

It's been about 4 years since I have programmed with Calypso and I am getting back into it and I have some help on site but wondered if anyone could chime in to help with something we use a lot here that would help me out.

When using Curve to analyze many of our parts outside profiles and inner pocket profiles...

Do I use a 2d or a 3d Curve?
Using Profile vs Line Profile?
What do I use for Filter / Outlier Settings?

Most of our machined parts getting measured on CMM have a DWG Note calling out "Undimensioned features on the dwg shall be within [Profile of a Surface] .010 Bilateral to the CAD Digital Data File."

There are some print callouts but I am seeing a lot of this on prints now where we are working direct to the CAD model.

Thanks for any/all help! 😉

info on 2D vs 3D curves: https://portal.zeiss.com/knowledge-base?id=2137986

Line profiles will be the most used characteristic for 2D and 3D curves.
Profile is used more for freeform features

Filtering: Most of the time, filtering of a curve is not necessary, especially if the number of nominals is kept to a lower number. if filtering is applied, understand that a larger "Lc" value will smooth the calculated actuals more than smaller "Lc" values. More filtering may cause unexpected results.

Outlier Elimination: most of the time, outlier elimination is not needed with curves. Attempt to remove "flyers" by using proper curve nominal density and measurement strategy. if you choose to use outlier elimination, factors of 3 and "only outlier" is recommended.

Lastly, I recommend signing up for a Calypso Curve class to get a refresher! https://eur01.safelinks.protection.outl ... reserved=0
