Drives Shutting Off

I am experiencing an issue with the drives shutting off while changing probes (approaching the rack in the Y-axis). The probe head is usually inside of the rack when the drive shut off. However, the alignment of the rack seems good. The probe is not touching the sides of the rack slot. When the drives shut off, I can see light between the probe puck and the rack.

Also, the drives turn off occasionally while measuring a part. The probe is not in contact with the part when the drives shut off.

If I run the machine at 70% speed or less, these issues seem to resolve. Any ideas? Perhaps the head needs an adjustment (vibration dampening)? Could the head be sensing some pressure while pushing the probe rack sliders? But it doesn't really make sense that the drives also shut off while traversing the part (not touching anything)...

Check the status window when this happens, there will almost certainly be an error message which may make identifying the specific issue more feasible. However based on your description of symptoms it certainly appears that you would need a Zeiss service tech to work on the system

Yes, we had a service person come out last week. He was not able to identify the problem. He has not seen it before. He said is going to order 3 different parts and test them all. I thought I would post here to see if anyone else has experienced this issue.

The error is usually "488 CAN device" followed by "CMM drives off."

Sometimes the error is "4 Travel command rejected, motor output stage not ready" followed by "CMM drives off."

Unfortunately that is a relatively generic error, so doesnt really point us to anything specific other than a Hardware issue. The only way to diagnose will be to do as the Service tech is doing and test the possible culprits to find which fixes the issue
