[Ow...]
We've got 3 Duramax CMM's with windows 7 that IT wants to replace with Windows 11 computers. Duramax (1) is running Calypso 2015 (6.0.12). Duramax (2) is running Calypso 2014 (5.8.28). Duramax (3) is running Calypso 2014 (5.8.28). I believe 2 of these have dongle licenses and the other is PC Bonded. Will all 3 of these versions run on Windows 11 or will they have to be upgraded? We have 3 more CMM's with Windows 10 that Microsoft is said to support until 2027 and I'm not wanting them to update them if not necessary, especially if Calypso would have to be upgraded. Anybody's time answering these questions and providing any insight into potential problems is greatly appreciated.
[Th...]
Skipping over the issue of official support by Zeiss (where the answer is "no"), I think the simplest way to find out is to have IT stand up a spare workstation with Win11 and install one of these versions, if you still have the installers. Swap out an existing workstation and run it for a while, see if anything happens. Personally, though, I think the best option is to just leave them in place. Using 11 might work now, but there's no guarantee that Microsoft won't make some kind of breaking change in the future. The problem of network security with a Win7 machine is easily remedied by just not having it on the network. Past that, all your IT department should need to worry about is hardware failure. [Ky...]
Hello Owen, Strictly speaking, neither 2014 no 2015 have been tested on Windows 10, much less Windows 11, so we can't say for certain if those versions will work on either. I do seem to remember some issues even installing them on those versions, but I might be misremembering, it has been a fair bit of time since I've seen that error. The earliest version that we have that is supported on Windows 11 is 2023, specifically 7.6.16. Less strictly speaking, I have seen several versions work, at least superficially, on Windows 11. Just be aware that we wouldn't be able to support you much if you run into hiccups with those versions. I hope that is helpful.
[Mi...]
Moving the PC Bonded License is a bit of a process, you will need help from Zeiss. The Dongle ones you can move yourself. I can confirm all versions from 4.0 to current will fully work on Windows 10, we did it. 4.0 took some work to get working but it worked for years. Make sure you stick with Nvidia and Intel hardware though. Not AMD, AMD does not support OpenGL - CAD issues. For our production floor we just bought a bunch of I5 machines, with intel's built in graphics and they work just fine for their needs. Get your IT to spring for more/Faster ram and NVME storage. In Windows 11 we had issues with the old dongle drivers, the manufacturer, Marx, has new drivers for download that fixes it. We haven't installed anything older than 6.6.28 on Windows 11 though. Until the recent PC replacement we had 5.8.28 on 3 Win10 PCs with no issues that I recall, other than having to do the PDF printer manual install to fix errors. [Br...]
Hello Owen, Calypso 2024 is the only supported version that will run in Win11. Some customers have had luck with C2021/22/23 but if there are issues, Zeiss can only offer minimal support as these version have not been tested.
