[Ti...]
I am trying to measure a length from a drill intersect of a plane to the center axis of the part (please see attached). I have measured everything successfully but cannot reconcile the length (37.9). I have tried making a 3d line through the center of the part (via an OD cylinder) but the features turns purple (?). I went into Construction and made an Intersection of the drill cylinder and plane and it appears to put the x right where it should be. I must be missing something as in my head this should be easy. Thanks for the help!drill int.jpg
[Ma...]
How you made 3D line? It should be sufficent to use just cylinder if it's not short. Then it should be easy - i am used to use caliper distance - just place this 3D line or cylinder with midpoint selection and that intersection of drilled hole and a plane. Then in "R" value is combination of X and Y value ( like in trigonometry ) - maybe you would need to use alignment with 3D line as +Z axis. [Ti...]
I've attached a screenshot. The cylinder should be more than tall enough to create a 3dline?3dline.jpg
[Ke...]
Construct a Perpendicular feature using your intersect point and your cylinder, and then report Perpendicular Distance
[Ti...]
Yes, that worked perfectly! Thank you! I still don't understand why it couldn't create a 3d line out of a 18mm tall cylinder.....
[Ri...]
Please sign in to view this quote. It's already a 3d Line "technically". But to answer your question is because to correctly build a 3d Line you need to use Recall and not Recall Feature Points. Since you measured Datum A as a Cylinder, you'd have to create Circles that you use Recall Feature Points for each Circle path inside of Datum A - then you could use Recall inside of your 3d Line to Recall the center of each individual Circle. That would have been a lot of extra steps for no real reason. 🙂
