Duramax head lists in a random direction

We have a duramax that lists in a random direction sometimes while executing the run, as in the probe will start to drift slowly in a direction instead of going to the next feature for measurement. When this happens, operator must cancel and "rehome" then machine in their words. I haven't seen this happen yet but this is my first week. They asked me if I could fix it. Do you fine people know what might be occurring and why? And possible quick solutions?
