Curve advice

I have a drill with a runout callout on the fluted tip. The flutes are not cut relative to any other feature on the part. So, I can't rely on clocking to get a starting point that won't cause the stylus to fall into the flutes. So, I extracted two 3d curves from the flute wireframe, then rotated them around its axis (X) so that they would be in the middle of a solid surface. I also had to change the vectors to perpendicular to the cylinder axis. Then recalled the points into a cylinder. My question: is this strategy appropriate or is there a simpler way?

It's appropriate.

Another way is to click out points where you wish, and turn them in to at point set. Then you can scan from point to point (and in between). I use that from time to time when I have awkward geometries.
