4 year old AutoRun is blank now

Started my morning off with the Supervisor of the cell saying something is wrong with the Contura. There was some sort of power failure last night in the shop. When I went to the Contura I could tell that the CMM went to "Home position" One of the operators got through the initial start up of the machine after a power failure. I notice that the AutoRun screen was completely blank. I went to the folder location and saw that this AutoRun file that I have been populating for over 4 years with many programs was only 1KB in size. So everything I have done is gone! I had to start a new AutoRun this morning.

How can the AutoRun be deleted/erased? Did someone last night or this morning click around and mistakenly remove everything? Trying to figure out if someone did this or was it a result of the power failure. There are 5 other CMM's in the shop and their Autorun files are fine. On all 5 of those CMM's I have now made "back-up" Autorun folder and put the file in that folder .....just in case.

Got IT involved and we don't have an option to restore to a previous version. I was hoping going back to yesterday would bring back the file completely. There was nothing in the recycle bin either.


Any input or suggestions would be appreciated.

Unfortunately this is due power issue. It's recommended to use UPS.

I think the way this software is written is the culprit.

Use UPS or do regular backups of whole Public/Documents/Calypso.. folder ( IT can be involved )

It depends on where you save the .ARN file and if/when the PC was purchased from ZEISS but PC's supplied by ZEISS after 2019 typically have a software called ACRONIS on them that back-up the C drive every couple weeks. As long as you were saving the .ARN file on that drive it very well could have made a back-up for you without you realizing.
You could follow this guide: https://portal.zeiss.com/knowledge-base?id=1525824 but instead of pulling the "config" folder as the guide states pull a backup copy of the ".ARN" file. Good Luck!

I'm not so sure about that. It depends on when the power failure happened. Autorun loads the whole content of the *.arn file into memory and after that doesn't touch the file again until it's reloaded. I see this often when I change something at the offline seat and then have to instruct the operators at the CMM to reload, otherwise they won't see the change.

But even on a reload, it's only read access which normally can't damage a file. Of course it's possible the (magnetic) drive itself may have become physically damaged during the failure (e.g. R/W head touching disk surface). But if it's an SSD, this can be ruled out too. The only possibility left then is that the power failure happened at the exact moment when somebody tried to save the file or when it got manipulated in another way (e.g. by a backup process etc.)

double check that file location with explorer. I have a similar issue. The file is in the folder, yet does not appear when browsing using autorun interface. I have another user log in for techs, and it defaults to an autorun file, which has been that way for 3 years. If I log in as Master, I cannot see it. I did a save as, under the other user and now I can see the copy. IDK what is going on.I feel like it is a file extension issue
