Reference Spheres

For the most part, I understand a 30mm reference sphere is standard on Contura and other bridge machines, and 25mm is standard for DuraMax and O-Inspect. When the topic of qualifying smaller styli, i.e. 0.5 and 0.3 arises, it is recommended to use an 8mm reference sphere.

Is there any reason not to order an 8mm reference sphere in lieu of a 25mm or 30mm reference sphere when purchasing a new machine? Asking for a potential new Zeiss owner.

Our Contura has only a 25mm sphere. We are able to qualify two styli (0.3 & 0.7)
without issue. They do have a long enough working length (ML) not to shank.
