Odd Travel Paths

I have noticed with some of my programs, the travel path seems to do strange things.

Example 1 - Clearance plane is set .5 inches from the part. On some features, the probe goes several inches away from the part.

Example 2 - Probe does a little "dance" before going to the feature. Extra movements, approaches from -y but doesnt go straight to the feature, instead it approaches until it gets close, then does a little shift in the x direction before going to the feature.

What settings should I check to correct things like this?

I am curious too.
I would guess look into clearance cube and try recalculating clearance zones, but it's wild guess.

I have a pallet where it looks like probe goes with another button on spot, then it switches button and it's going on clearance cube.
Like zig zag move.

Darci. You could possibly have very large clearance or retract values. On the subject of the clearance cube.
I recommend Blocking edges. All but Z+. That way the probe always travels over the part from feature to feature.

Yes! Exactly...does a little zig zag for no reason. (Well clearly there is a reason, I just wish I knew what it was)

The clearance/retract values are the default, so that is not it.

If I were to block the edges, would that mean all the clearance places would have to be Z+? Or would it just go to Z+ but then still approach from the side if needed?

Here is an example. Clearance plane is .500 from edge of CAD model. Retract and clearance distances are default. But before and after measuring the feature, the probe goes approx 4.5 inches in the -Y direction.

As far as the extra move, it is to protect the sensor if if were to go down further in front of the part. Obviously, that would require a longer stylus.
