Auto Save

Will "Auto Save" save while a program is running?
I'm getting tired of Calypso crashing for no reason and loosing hours of runtime.

Example:
I stop a program because something doesn't look right.
Open a feature or a characteristic, and Calypso freezes (it's random). You can't do anything but "End Task" Calypso.

Are you auto-saving to network? I'm asking because we had a customer 10+ years ago, that was auto-saving to a network drive and it would lock up. Once they turned off auto-save, I believe the problem stopped. I never heard from them again so I don't know what they ended up doing.

I don't have an answer to the auto save question but I have had some success with getting Calypso to unfreeze by hitting Control-Y on the keyboard or by hitting the E-Stop button on the control box. It doesn't always work but it has gotten me out of a few freezes.

I'm not 100% sure, but I would say no, it doesn't autosave while a program is running and changes might be in progress (think of PCM code modifying the CAD model or some characteristics).

I have disabled autosave long ago. We never used any of the saved copies, so all it did was to annoy us. We save to the network and the network drive is set up so we can always recall the "last version" of every file or folder (Windows function). That has always been sufficient when we needed to revert to an older state or something got corrupted or deleted.

I am not using auto save right now, and I do not run from a network drive.

Ctrl-Y (User Interrupt) is a under advertised tool.

Don't be afraid to hit it more than once - sometimes it takes a few tries to work. A good fraction of my Calypso freezes are solved by using it - maybe 40%.

Ctrl+Y is a fantastic tool (I am definitely guilty of using it if I want to generate an error report the lazy way). I would also add holding down CTRL while clicking the close button or "X" on the various windows that open in Calypso to this toolkit, this will usually force close the window, which can be useful if you are getting a repeating error popup or are trapped in a recursion loop
