Sylus Rack Clearance Setting/Distance Global Setting

Could anyone tell me how to adjust to global setting for the stylus rack clearance before a stylus change takes place? My past trainer set this up so that no collision would occur if I selected an angled stylus on the VAST XXT head before changing stylus. The load stylus wouldn't crash, but if the active stylus was on an angle facing the probe rack, upon re-loading that stylus, it would crash. Never happened to me, only my trainer 🙂.

Only problem was, because the stylus rack was so near the end of the table, it would cause an overtravel alarm if the XXT head approached too quickly. I worked around this by just running my programs at 100 mm/s. Wasting a lot of time, I know...

This week, during our calibration, I asked the Zeiss tech to help me move the rack a bit closer so I can run full speed. He did just that, and we located the new position of the probe rack, but the clearance distance that I'm speaking of, must be based on absolute machine coordinates, because I can tell the XXT head gets much closer to the rack now, before rotating to 90° to complete the stylus exchange.

Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

In the automatic stylus system changer, click on the center drop down window (says changer) then click on Approach parameters.
This will allow you to change how far away it will be from the rack.

Dylan, in that changer - approach parameters location that David mentioned, a lot of people will use 9999 in the Top column for before change and after change. This tells the probe head to move to the top of the machine before the change and after the change and do all the rotations at the top of the machine before moving to the probe rack.

If you're hitting the limit of the machine, you can change that 9999 value to be a value that works for the individual stylus systems that you have in each bay as each bay will have their own approach parameters.

I've found that if you use 9999, you're going to hit the Z limit, but it's never been an issue.
