Surface roughness measurement

Dear community, I would like to measure the surface roughness of a part.

How can I do that using GOM Inspect?

 

Here is a screenshot of my current view, I was able to import my point cloud.

Hello Timo,

you could create a surface defect map on your surface. If there is a surface comparison of some kind in your project, the check "form change rate" may give you an idea, too. Your mesh has a lot of holes, though. So the inspections might not work out as expected with a clean mesh. Judging from the color in your screenshot, the surface's normals are inverted, too (if we are looking at the outer surface). This can be changed under operations -> mesh in the menu.

Does GOM Inspect report back the Roughness Average per ASME 46.1 Surface Texture Surface Roughness waviness and Lay?

What if we need to find out the Rz1Max , Rp, or .etc per ISO 1997?

Is the data taken from an ATOS accurate enough to provide actual results within a reasonable gage to tolerance ratio with respect to an Ra of 125?

 Ra cannot be evaluated in GOM (zeiss) inspect, atos sytems cannot capture this level of detail to pull out a reliable roughness value.   You ned something like Alicona for surface roughness applications .

I would agree with nanno the point cloud you have looks quite noisy so even if you could extract it it would be heavily influenced by this noise.
