The fitting position is effectively a CAA map including all components-drives, probehead, etc. as opposed to the CAA which only maps the RDS. It only should need done on a new machine, or if you create a new machine tab for some reason. There should be no reason to run it everytime you reference the cal sphere position. You dont need to do Fitting Position at all if you dont use CAA

Here is little explanation on purpose for fitting position

Purpose of the fitting position qualification
Once the RC has been mounted to the CMM, its position in the machine coordinate system is determined. This is a prerequisite for qualifying the stylus systems and styli on the RC.

One-time fitting position qualification
Normally, this fitting position qualification only has to be performed once for the RC. The stylus systems and styli used on the RC can then each be qualified without re-qualifying the fitting position of the RDS every time.

Renewed fitting position qualification
After replacing a DSE, a CSC or an RDS suitable for RC-CAA, you must perform a fitting position qualification again. In addition, you then must re-qualify all of the stylus systems qualified with RC-CAA with RC-CAA.

When updating your CALYPSO/CMM-OS software 4.4.04 to a newer version, you also must perform the fitting position qualification and re-qualify all RC-CAA stylus systems.
