Measuring diameter with rotary table

Possibly a silly question, is it acceptable to measure a diameter (obviously facing up/vector k = 1) keeping the probe head stationary and turning the rotary table?
Getting a difference in size between scanning with the head moving and table stationary, and head stationary and table moving! The 2 circles are identical in number of points, Z height and filters etc.
My colleagues and I all believe it’s acceptable and we should get close results.
Any insights would be much appreciated!

are you 'Qualifying the R/T' measuring a feature on the actual parts each time ? I think this may be a step you are missing.

Please check the R/T info in the Calypso help manual (used to be chapter 18) - or reach out to Zeiss a bit lengthy to explain here.

In summary measure an ID/OD at R/T 0° and also at 180° to determine R/T Axis.

If this is done properly results with or without R/T should match. If not done - yes I've seen large differences. If not in size certainly in runout or positions, etc.

Good luck.

Hi Chris,

I have not done this, however the RT axis is qualified using the two sphere method.
Also the roundness is really good for RT rotating, not so good for probe head scanning, which to my understanding is correct, scanning with RT removes any noise from the X and Y / bridge moving?
Needless to say I will try your way see what we get.
