Huge rant !!!

I've been around for a very long time. I remember buying a Tandy 1000EX when it just came out. I remember how computers were supposed to make our lives easier. Calypso and Piweb seem to have gone the opposite direction. Calypso with its non-functionable "back" button, to its unusable default settings (how long will we have to wait for this), and complex update instructions (windows can update automatically at the middle of the night). Not to mention a host of other goofy (how many times do I have to select high resolution) problems that we all put up with because there is no other option. At least Calypso gave us the paint brush! Piweb, you took simple commands and made me look them up on the web, print the instructions, and follow them to the T only to have whatever I was trying fail after 2 tries. This was a one button feature in custom print out! I am NOT a programmer; I don't want to become a programmer... I am an end user, I want it easy to use and intuitive. Piweb is neither of these. It's great that you can do so many new things with Piweb, but you made all the mundane easy things SO much more difficult. You also took away our options, Piweb is it !
Sorry for the annoying rant.128_1bf5f788a9f8eb854ba4f7987c386101.jpg

As far as the instructions go. I used to work for a German company, and by German, I mean not just in name. Everyone in upper management was flown in from Germany. There was a lot of "Lost in translation" happening. They also made simple things difficult (over-engineered). It must be a German thing. When Zeiss writes instructions it's as though they translate it directly from German to English. You can't do that. It has to be edited because somethings don't translate directly.

The Zeiss guys are not only German, they are Swabian (me too) 🤣 which makes things a lot worse. We are sometimes driven by a certain stubbornness, which enables us to achive great results where others may have given up long before. But sometimes it also prevents us from leaving a wrong path. 🙄

I had to smile about the irony when I saw the pictue above: I own a small Swiss army knife like the one on the left. It was once a giveaway from Zeiss 😃

I attended a third-party seminar on best practices for Calypso and Piweb a few weeks ago. The presenter showed how to change the header page on a Piweb report, and after 15 minutes of instruction, the instructor pressed the button, and it didn't work. I wanted to say, "That's how it works for me too!" but I refrained. I know how frustrating Piweb can be.

I had one of those knifes too, Norbert!

" (how many times do I have to select high resolution)"

Just every time you save, change alignment, click, type, breathe etc. etc.

Got to admit that one is annoying.

I'm willing to die on the hill that PiWeb is better than anything else on the market. The Custom Printout was far from custom, was extremely limited in its capability, and was cumbersome to modify.

I understand that PiWeb is like an onion, but there really are a lot of capabilities to it. The company I work for not only offers PiWeb as a solution, but we personally use it every day, and could not function without it.

If there are specific PiWeb related questions you have or you'd like more specific hands on training, do not hesitate to reach out directly to me.

I'd love to help if possible, but also I'm here to just listen.

Richard, I truly appreciate that you advocate for your positive experience with PiWeb. I'm glad that you're speaking up about how it has been a proven solution in your situation.

I'm sure you're aware of my firm stance in opposition to PiWeb. At the same time, I can't underscore enough how important it is for me to listen to the voices of others and to keep an open mind. I know my experience, but I think it's healthy to be willing to take in new information.

Please know that, even after I drop my own rants about criticism towards PiWeb, that I value your wisdom and experience, and I hope you keep sharing on this forum.

You guys are actually editing piweb reports?
The default ones do everything I need it to do.
I got my standard reports for measurements.
Got my plot protocols for visual representation which i dont use much. Using the cad model works better though.
I got that other one that shows me repeatability.

Showing the operators and engineers what a dimension measured and how it visually looks is the main thing that helps them figure out how to fix the part.

Better is subjective. You can say that P$Web is more powerful, you can say the graphics are more stunning; but that does not mean it is better for everyone.

A 1000hp 2023 Dodge Demon, with its beautiful IHI supercharger, is powerful and pretty; But you would be hard pressed to say it is "better" for a 16 year old boy to get that as his first car. Sometimes simple really is better for people.

**Note: I use PiWeb myself and I like it. Just not assuming what is good for me is good for everyone.**

How many times do I have to change the Clearance Plane in features that require multiple clearance planes?
At times I have to make the same edit upwards of three times for a given feature. This one has caused many probes to break.
This has been ongoing for about 6 years.

Or running a feature and then later having to run it again, and again, etc, because it loses its data. (Ongoing since I started using Calypso in 2000).
