Qualifying spherical and Disk styli with XTR Sensor.

When qualifying styli on the XTR Sensor, I usually qualify one position (+Y).
Then I open Stylus System Managment and copy the first styli to +X, -Y and -X, simply swapping coordinates and vectors as applicable. This saves a lot of time having to manually qualify each position. I go as far to calculate my Sin/Cos coord's and vectors for rotations that are not 90°.

Odd thing is, when I attempt this with a Disk stylus (staying in 90° rotations), it will not work (or I have not figured out something to do this).

Sorry can't help you there.

On disc probes on XTR on each new rotation I always create a new probe and calibrate on a sphere without copying anything and then correct with ring.

If there is a quicker process it would be nice to know.

Since I can copy an existing Spherical probe stylus and create any articulation by editing the geometry and adding the correct "A" rotation value, I thought I could do the same with Disk probes. It seems there is no re-calculation of geometry when I change the "A" value.
The newly created stylus will articulate but continue to the original axis, example, If I started with position 2 (Stylus pointing in +Y axis) and created position 3 (Stylus pointing in the +X axis) the qualification will approach as if it were still at position 2.

Thought that is weird.

The only way that Calypso recalculated automatically additional positions for me was by using RC position window to add new styli.
Never tried that with Discs though.

I use "Stylus system management". (See image).
In the example image, the only stylus tips I manually qualify on a new Probe system is "1" and "2", all the rest are swapping nominals for each axis and vectors. This example is a simple 90 degree setup. I can calculate any axis/angle/vector once one stylus tip is qualified,, IE, "2".

The image Capture2.PNG is a complex Probe using 25 articulations around Z axis.
Stylus 4_0.0_0.0 and 1_0.0 were the only styli to be manually qualified on the CMM, all the others are calculations, generally once an angle is complete, the inverse is just reversing the numbers.
Its quick, efficient and works well.
