Question regarding a slot.

I have a part that is in the shape of a slot. I take a profile and recall it into a slot . Locking x-y and using a plane at top for z.

When i report the line profile with no datum , it seems to be more aligned vs when i use the datum's.

Top picture is no datum reference. Bottom picture is using the datum's that I created.

The part is a injection molded and for locking planar rotational , Ive tried different methods to help the rotation as shown on the figure 2 . But no luck.

Any help or advice would be nice.

Hello Ravi,

I'm still trying to understand what the end goal is here. Does this particular feature have a callout associated (position, profile, etc). If so, to what datum reference is it called out?

Is it used as a datum? You mentioned something about locking planar rotation, but I'm not sure if you mean in a datum reference frame, or in an alignment.

As a side point, yes this does look a bit like a slot, but a slot in Calypso specifically has to have 2 linear sides and 2 semi-circular sides, which doesn't seem like this part does, so I don't know if I would trust it when recalled into a curve.

If you can send a bit more information, I might be able to give some additional advice.

When you have a GD&T characteristic without any datums, Calypso will use the base alignment instead.
That is why you're getting different results when you use no datums vs datums. Depending on what features you used for your base alignment, the results could vary by a lot.

Also, I don't think you should be recalling that data into a slot. Just do a free form or curve and use that to check the profile. Look at the print and use the datums provided.
Forcing it into a slot messes with the data I think.

This is not the case when using Curve and Free-Form.

In addition, there are some cases with Position where it will create the Best-Fit for you, but you need to verify via the Default Printout.

Moving forward the new GD&T engine will help relieve this ambiguity.
