How to measure a spline feature?

Looks like you've sectioned the model already. Create from that section a 3d curve.
Multiply the created nominal curve points by 3 (min). and scan. Is the for a profile?

Yes I will use curve scan for profile but also like to report the two basic dimensions either with kink point or intersection but not sure how.

2d curve should work as well.

Intersection should be fine. If the the geometries are at the end are 3D features, e.g. planes or cylinders, the choices of intersection points might get confusing. If you use lines in stead from your section for example, they tend to produce more stable intersections in my experience.

Intersect Line + 2D curve on one end, and Line + same 2D Curve on opposite end.

Good luck.

Maybe stupid question, but what is the reason for multiply the created nominal curve points by 3?

Basic dimensions are not meant for measuring and reporting.

Perhaps point density will be low, but usually it's meant to have 3 measured points for 1 nominal point.

This is by no means a stupid question, and I know I've asked it.

The reason for a required minimum of three measured points in relation to a nominal point is that the software employs a designated zone or search area to interpolate actual values. Ensuring the presence of at least one measured point preceding and another following the probable proximal measured point aids in preventing inaccurate interpolations. When ambiguity arises regarding which nominal point has 'custody' of a specific measured point, the inclusion of additional measured points can be instrumental in resolving the ambiguity.

When you extract the nominal curve Calypso gives it a default number of points.
It's recommended that you increase by 3x that number of nominal points.

I am doing curves by point set - 3d curve, set distance of points rather than number of points ( like 0,02mm to have precise nominals ) - after that i reduce nominals to normal point density ( this way you are getting better spline than by increasing number of points )

Thanks for the explanation, Jeff. I knew the how, but not the why.

Yes but on all our FAI reporting they want to include basic dimensions.

That's when I use a Result Element and input the theoretically exact dimension(s).

Thanks Justin - I'll have to borrow that one... great idea.
