Star Probe Circle Grouping Question.

Hi, This was something in the advanced class I simply forgot as its been awhile and haven't needed to use this type of setup.

When I have a Shaft (OD) that I can not get to normally with a Down probe to make a circle/cylinder, but need a Star to use a Front and Back or Left and Right.

What is that set up again?

I know its to scan half of the Shaft with back probe, then back half of the same section with front probe.. I just forget how I am supposed to connect it all. What parameter or grouping do I need.

Thanks.

Add an additional clearance plane for the second part of the scan.

Your strategy would look like:

Clearance Data (-Y)
Circle Path (back stylus)
Clearance Data (+Y)
Circle Path (front stylus)

Ya, That was what I was thinking. I just remembered doing it a bit different with 3 paths and then grouping. I'm probably over thinking it.

If you can, overlap is always a good idea, you would overlap more or less depending on size of the circle and scanning speed.

Overlapping can cause some weird clearance moves (arcing approach). If you have limited clearance near the feature, be careful.

The warning shown in a previous comment shows up twice. If you answer No to the first question, then Yes when you close the feature, Then Calypso sets up everything (clearance wise) perfectly.

This has always confused us, but No, then Yes works quite well. But be careful! Oh, if you program and test the first circle then copy, paste and adjust location everything works perfectly! Good luck !
