When doing root depth checks in Gear Pro.. how does the software handle mismatches in roots when grinding parts single sided? The old gleason bevel software from UMESS days had an option to use 3 points, but do not see this in Gear Pro. Note we never used this feature before because we use blank checkers but recent developments want us to switch to the CMMs..

Josh,

Hi. Yes I believe this can be done in gear Pro as long as you have a fairly accurate CAD model. (You'll also need to rotate a tooth to +X prior to importing the CAD in Gear Pro, if you do not already have one.)

Is this what you would like to do ? :

This is a bit tricky and takes patience. Once you have CAD model as mentioned, go up to menu>model>element selection via CAD>root

From there you should see a window as pictured on the left side. Set to 3x3 and 5/5 (%) as I have to start, and select the root area of CAD model that is closes to +X (it may need to actually be behind or in front of the tooth, e.g. it has an actual direction from tooth #1, try with root closest to +X, if there is any measurement errors, try the root on opposite side of tooth 1/ +X. Zeiss should be more clear - but they are not - I believe I learned the hard way.)
Click the green ok button, it should display arrows as shown. Click ok, save, edit root measurement task as appropriate.

I don't know how you would analyze mismatch in Gear Pro, other than some combination of tolerance. I know what you are referring to on actual bevel gears.

Perhaps the min/max on the root points will be enough ? :

Hope this helps.

Good luck.
