[Je...]
This is random, but I looked at your website, and I became curious about your CMM hardware. I see one Contura. Is it approximately 10-15 years old with a vast xxt sensor? With the precision EDM and CNC work your company does, have you ever found the XXT to have trouble verifying tolerances of .0001" or tighter? Do any of your CMMs use an active sensor, and if so, do you notice greater accuracy with it? Didn't mean to bump your post. Just curious.
[Ja...]
We have 3 Contura's (2009, 2011, and 2017). We dont use any active sensors (assuming you mean temp), and the tightest tolerances we work with are +/-0.00015" which we haven't had many issues with. For diameters with a total tolerance of .0003" or less, we verify with airgaging.
[Je...]
. Thanks for the information, Jake, Very interesting about the air gauging. I have heard air gauging is quite precise. By active sensor, I was referring to the scanning technology of the sensor head (see attached). Active scanning sensors like the VAST and VAST XTR tend to bring a lower uncertainty ratio to the system and therefore are more accurate. "Passive scanning probe heads use springs to hold the stylus in its neutral position and strain gauges to measure deflection as it is moved by contours of the surface being measured. Active scanning probe heads use software-controlled electromagnets and force controllers in place of springs and strain gauges." -Quality Magazine . .
