Super easy XTR question

We have the XTR rotating head and 1 of our bases has difficulty rotating.
It'll rotate around, then when it gets close it won't quite be at the right angle so it'll rote back and forth, until it eventually finds the correct angle and it clunks into place and goes on.
It's never failed to find the correct angle, and its not getting any worse, and its been doing the same thing for the 2+ years that i've worked at this place, but its just a strange thing.
base plate and contacts have been cleaned several times.

Go into Stylus system management - select reset ID - select Teach ID. See if it prompts you to re-teach the XTR positions. It will rotated to every position. This tends to help that.

It could also be an issue with the torqueing on the screws on the stylus plate.

Also, how long is the stylus system (axially)? And is it out of balance? The XTR has a max allowance of 350mm axial length of a stylus if rotating, and in addition it is more sensitive to out of balance.

I've had this happen repeatedly on one adapter plate. And a couple of times on some others.
Be careful, if it fails to lock to the correct angle a few times in a row, it will assume it's in the correct position (even if it's not) and it will just continue the run. I've had some nasty collisions because of that.
I was suspecting an out of balance stylus system, but the most problematic one was pretty balanced.
At some point I thought that the screw that's rotating the the adapter plates is loose, I think the night shift operator has tightened it a bit. It was a few years ago so I don't remember exactly, but it doesn't happen as often anymore.

Balance is not a problem with this particular probe. I'ts a lightweight 1.5mm stylus with about 3 inches of 3mm extension.
