Recommended Settings for 0.100mm probe calibration?

Does anyone have any experience/recommendations for calibrating a 0.100mm probe? I have currently purchased a handful of 0.100mm styli from Zeiss and have encountered difficulty in calibrating them without breaking them during the calibration process. Admittedly, I originally attempted to calibrate on a 25mm reference sphere to no avail. I have since purchased a 8mm reference sphere and would like to button down any other settings/processes to give the best chance at success. I am using a VAST XXT TL1 sensor on a Contura G2. Any advice is greatly appreciated.

I would have to check specifications to be sure, but I do not believe a 0.100mm probe is approved for Zeiss CMM's. That being said, generally the break occurs on approach so reducing your probing dynamic (even as low as 20%) may help with breakage. With a probe that tiny it may also be of benefit to change the probing behavior to sensitive, if you see breaks occurring after the probe makes contact and starts to measure/calibrate.

Kevin, thank you for the reply and additional info. I will attempt these settings with the 8mm ball and 0.100mm probes once they arrive. The probes broke mid-cal while sweeping back over the reference sphere. (Again, I believe the 25mm ball was partly to blame.) I will be a little surprised that the 0.100mm probe isn't approved for a Zeiss CMM as it is a Zeiss probe for an XXT head purchased from the Zeiss Metrology webshop. Zeiss part # 626113-0010-020. https://shop.metrology.zeiss.com/INTERS ... 3-0010-020
Basically, what I am trying to do with these probes is measure the depth of a 0.200mm wide channel that is approximately 0.350mm deep with the accuracy of the CMM. I believe if I can make it thru the calibration, taking single points in the Z direction shouldn't be a problem. Any thoughts? Thanks again.

This was found in our Contact Probing systems manual: 2915_52c4a7eeb801363a1e33276cec3cefd2.png
My expectation is that smaller probes are listed in our webshop as we realize that for some special applications customers may need them, and while they are not officially supported, they may work. We will provide them, but it is on you if you choose to use them.
