[Ri...]
Our new CMM is setup, I noticed the MasterProbe doesn't appear to be a CAA style. In the Probing system qualification dialog box, there is no option for "Fitting". When importing an SSC file for another Probe, there is no option for "CAA". Also, I have ran into this before and can't recall how to fix it, the typical "Sensor or sensor holder" should be "XXT_Carrier", now it is "XXt.TL3_Carrier". There is no option to change the Carrier. Any help on this is appreciated. No CAA Option.jpg

[Ri...]
I do not know why the image is showing XDT. It is definitely an XXT in Stylus System Creator. Either way, same issue.
[Da...]
I might be wrong, but isn't CAA used on rdx heads to calibrate a few different positions and have the machine use that data to "calibrate" ALL the possible positions of that probe? It is setup for RDS XXT, ViScan and DotScan. (All on the RDS).
[To...]
But what is your machine set up in the CMM settings? Is it set to a machine that doesn't have CAA? i.e. Contura, Prismo etc.
[Ri...]
It is Contura, the latest design. I am going to create a new tab for a Contura 2014. <Edit> I selected Contura 2014, the software changed it to Contura....Contura.jpg
[To...]
I have mine set to CONTURA and it works fine.

[To...]
Dumb question. Are you on your Planner seat or the CMM?
[Da...]
I just stumbled in here and I'm wondering why this is a problem. As far as I remember, the Master Probe cannot and must not be CAA. It is always a non-CAA probe. Using a master probe for normal measuring would defer its purpose.

It has Fitting Position button showing. The CMM doesn't. And I am thinking this is why I can't create CAA Styli.Capture.JPG

[To...]
Please sign in to view this quote. There are 2 steps for the MasterProbe when utilizing RDS-CAA. 1) Perform Reference Sphere Position just like any other set up. 2) Perform Fitting Position. This operation qualifies 12 pre-selected angles that calculates all of the angle possibilities. Then, a CAA stylus system performs a passive qualification followed by the CAA qualification (same 12 position process as fitting position)

[Ri...]
We use SSC files for simulating a Feature execution. You cant import SSC files for styli unless the MasterProbe SSC file has been imported. Other than that, to your question, the Zeiss tech set up the MasterProbe. And that is where the carriers, "XXT_Carrier" and "XXt.TL3_Carrier" came from. I believe all of the issues are relevant to the carrier "XXt.TL3_Carrier". (I can't recall how I fixed this the one time).

[Ri...]
More information. I created a new Machine Tab: RDS_XXT Setup accordingly. I then copied my Offline system over to the Online system, overwriting the new machine tab. What I learned. 1. When the system is in "Simulation" mode everything appears to function as in the past. MasterProbe imports as planned. MasterProbe has the "Fitting position" button. MasterProbe qualifies as expected. MasterProbe Fitting position qualifies as expected. Imported Styli dialog box has the following settings: A. Probe = XXT B. Sensor or sensor holder = XXT_Carrier C. Stylus system = (Chosen stylus) with RDSCAA option. Imported Styli qualify as expected. 2. When I switch to CMM mode all of the above doesn't function as expected. MasterProbe doesn't have "Fitting position" button. (A greyed out "Qualify stylus" button is shown in its place). MasterProbe only qualifies as a single probe in A0B0. MasterProbe RDS-CAA qualification Icon is Greyed out (Typically you see a RDS-CAA icon). Imported Styli dialog box has the following settings: A. Probe = XXt.TL3 B. Sensor or sensor holder = XXT_Carrier C. User field = XXt.TL3_Carrier Imported Styli do not have RDSCAA option. (Its missing). Edit: Same scenario as above on the original Zeiss install machine Tab. [Je...]
The issue is in the controller. I believe you have a ticket open for this issue already. For future reference, a good rule of thumb is: If CALYPSO operates normally in Simulation mode but acts odd/errors with an active CNC connection (connected to CMM) then the issue is with the machine. Do a full controller/CMM and CALYPSO reboot, home and try again. If issue persists, call CIC for HW support. If the behavior persists in both Simulation AND in active CNC then it is likely an issue with the PC/CALYPSO installation. This isn't a hard-fast concrete rule but better than 95% of the time this will get you in the ballpark. Also, you cannot reassign the machine settings in the CNC machine tab. It is communicated from the CMM itself.
[Ri...]
I did end up contacting CIC on this. Thanks.
[Da...]
Rick, kind of a side question. Long, long ago when I got a contura with RDS CAA, I was trying to measure stuff with the head rotated to several different angles. I would almost always get some screwy numbers. I ran a test of the head by checking the same point , but at different head angles. I was getting huge deviations, and called it in to the help desk. They suggested not using the CAA option and instead calibrating each head angle individually. That worked VERY well. I never looked back, and I have never again used CAA. That was in the early 2000's maybe even late 90's. Has anything changed? Can you get repeatable readings at different head angles using CAA?? ( I no longer have any RDS heads)
