Calypso 2023 Pros and Cons

Recommended Posts

For the past few weeks I have been in contact with Zeiss application engineers regarding a few bugs we have been experiencing with Calypso 2020 7.0.0211 (12.12.2020). He is currently suggesting that we upgrade to 7.6. While I have no issue doing that, we would have to upgrade all of our workstations because we use the same data base and programs for the workstations.

My question to you guys, What are the Pros and Cons that stand out to you the most after upgrading to 2023? (I know the icons aren't the same and are disliked)

What is the Biggest Strength or Drawback?

I Imagine this question has been asked before so I apologize and thanks in advance!

It still functions in existing plans, although I think the formatting is a little messed up.

Far as I can tell, my complaints about 23 are the same as I had about 22, and are pretty much entirely UI. Same stuff that's been in multiple other threads the past year.

There's a manual workaround, but it's not a properly supported option, and any new functions that get added in the future aren't going to have old-style icons to work with. It's a stopgap at best, so as much as I dislike it I'm just dealing with the new icons.

There's a new compatibility option to reactivate the custom printout functionality for one or multiple measurement plans. Zeiss just "forgot" to communicate it 🤠

We have huge monitors! The print on 2023 is tiny. I can read the same size monitor running 2020 from 5 ft away. It's not something you change very often, so we don't know/remember how to do it! (retirement can't come soon enough 🤣 🤣 🤣 )

Isn't CALYPSO from Zeiss? And didn't they start their career with optical equipment?
There will certainly be an "inexpensive" special loupe from Zeiss as an accessory that is specially optimized for small icons and font type from CALYPSO... 😃

Have a nice weekend

There are 2 settings that might help. The first is under "Resources->Large Icons". At least in prior versions this increased the font size as well (I do not have 2023 readily available at this moment). The other is in "Extras->Settings->Environment->Font" there is a setting to use the font from your system settings instead of the Calypso font. This probably wont increase the size(i've never tested it), but you may find a font that is easier to read and can use this to set Calypso to that font as well.

As for getting old....if you figure out how to fix that, let me know.

That is what I use currently, it works well for Calypso because you can open the features/characteristics to see the full name and still have plenty of CAD window room. I still strongly recommend a 2nd monitor if you do any programming using digital prints, as Calypso is somewhat annoying(in my opinion) to have share a screen with other things due to how it scales, and there is also not enough space to really read the print either.

.

I've really enjoyed using a widescreen monitor. Not only does it enhance the workflow, but Calypso's CAD window really gets a chance to stretch its wings.

Nice setup Jeff !

Prismo Ultra huh? sweet.

I should be getting some more larger monitors soon, and we are supposedly upgrading all our machines to 2023 soon.
