[Sc...]
I'm curious if there's a break point for writing programs in the newest versions to use on older ones. I work at a commercial metrology lab and we write programs and implement them. I'm wondering if anyone knows of a break point where it won't be compatible anymore. We're using Version 7.2 Thanks. [Ig...]
If you have written the program with 7.2 Calypso, with 7.4 and higher it will not run if it is what you mean but this can also be worked around. Sorry for my English
[Ke...]
It is best to assume that any program written or saved in a newer version of Calypso will not be able to be opened in an older version. If you save in 7.2 it will not open in 7.0 or earlier, saved in 7.4 will not open in 7.2 or earlier, etc. This does not apply to service packs to my knowledge, so a program saved in 7.2.24 can still be opened and run in 7.2.04. [Je...]
Thanks Kevin. To further explain this: CALYPSO is backward-compatible. The software will open any program written in an older version. If using a VERY old version (like pre 4.8) then some extra care should be taken in terms of measurement strategies as most systems only used single probing points at that time and scanning was not a common option. Just migrating a few versions isn't a concern. CALYPSO is NOT forward-compatible (nor is nearly any other software/hardware in existence) in that you cannot write a program in 7.4 and open it in an older version (ex: 7.2 or earlier) of CALYPSO. The reason for this is that newer versions have different coding syntax that may not be recognized by older versions. This will likely cause navigation crashes and/or improper application of filtering/fitting algorithms. There are some people that have developed un-supported "workarounds" for this but I strongly advise against this as you will not know which data is calculated correctly vs which is off by any amount. Utilizing a workaround to open a newer program in older CALYPSO is a violation of the ZEISS user agreement as well.
[Je...]
There should be an option to save programs for older versions. That would be great.

[Je...]
Dane, I have read about this. This is for running old programs on new Calypso (created 7.0 - running on 7.4) And this option will disappear, it´s mostly for Zeiss- service programs, that aren´t updated to piweb reporting yet. Read about this in a post about old reporting (what has been removed with Calypso 22) and piweb. I hope I remember correctly
[Je...]
Please sign in to view this quote. Ah, yes... the infamous "Compatibility Settings" options menu. I sometimes forget this menu exists, but when I remember it, I feel compelled to read and understand every option.
[Je...]
Please sign in to view this quote. That is not the intent for this function. This is in the event you run an older program on a newer version and you see a strange behavior in terms of CALYPSO operation or CMM navigation. This option "may" band-aid that behavior but is not intended to be a permanent fix where it is utilized. There is not a way to "back-version" programs that I am aware of but this would make for a good request to "MYVOICE"
