[Za...]
Hello all, I'm having a heck of a time getting the highlighted angles, due to my projections wanting to go through the middle of the circle (radius) rather than the min or max. Is there a simple way to accomplish this? Also, my 2nd question is a GD&T question. How would you evaluate the profile callout that's highlighted? There are numerous radii and to make things even better, the surrounding profile is conical 🤣 🤣. As of right now, I'm only evaluating the 17.00mm Radius for the profile callout (we don't have curve/freeform, so I can't evaluate everything all at once as far as I understand the Calypso limitations). [Jo...]
Try making an alignment using that origin and rotated the nominal 25°. Then get the min/max coordinate construction to make a line to origin.coordinate.jpg
[Za...]
Please sign in to view this quote. John, I'm trying to follow what you're suggesting, but I'm not having any luck at all. I don't know if showing the depth of this view will help explain things better, but I can't get anything to work that even gets me remotely close. [Ju...]
This post has a workaround for measuring profiles without Curve. viewtopic.php?t=9879 "There are some CMM's here without curve, however they must inspect splines, now we all know you can just click space points all over, but who wants that. We need nice orderly sweeps around parts every 90° or so. On these machines I will section the part under creating features and then go to point set. The feature pull down is usually defaulted to freeform surface here, however select space point, then under general path select from curves. Then select the section you want and hit create and play with the grid length until you get the desired amount of points you want. When satisfied click create feature and this will make a space point group. Be sure and change the evaluation to space point from cad surface." [Za...]
Please sign in to view this quote. Hello John, Could you please be more specific with how you would make the alignment based on this information? If things need to be cylinders or cones for this to work, I can do that, this is just more for reference. I haven't been able to get any kind of min/max coordinate information to populate correctly (I just don't use this function very often).
[Jo...]
So I'm not sure I understand the circle on a cone, unless it has a slightly drafted angle. In that case, I would measure at the base to capture maximum size. I made a crude sketch and did screenshots of 2 secondary alignments. This shows the orientation so you can use maximum-minimum coordinate. I have no actuals in mine to display.. Here is another "hack" method. Create a theoretical circle with miniscule diameter (ex .0001) at origin and just use Tangent construction. You will need to project this onto a primary datum so the angle is not compound. It does provide a graphical representation so you see what it does.align1.jpgalign2.jpgtang.jpg
[Jo...]
I didn't have all the info so the nominal angle is off, but here is what you're after.angle.jpg

As soon as I get caught up on production it's back to this beast. Hopefully I can get this added to the program and inspected today. It would make for a great weekend 🤣
[Za...]
Please sign in to view this quote. So I was able to make all of my tangents correctly with your little trick with the .0001" circle, but I can't report any of the data from the angles. It doesn't like one of my tangents for some reason. These are all at the same depth and I've even tried doing projections to the surface and using those, but I get the same issue with the feature shaded pink/purple and no result. Is there something I'm missing?

[Jo...]
Be sure the theoretical circle, is marked as such. The line to circle 4 isn't a tangent,so maybe just a 3d line there. Look at the tangents to see if there are actuals.I've noticed it sometimes is quirky if those constructions are not in the same alignment.. [Za...]
Please sign in to view this quote. I started over and it worked this time, I'm just having a hard time believing the results, but is this possible based on the form of the circle on cone scan (this entire profile is a 0-5º cone)? I'm scanning as close to the base of the feature as I can without dragging the stylus across the bottom surface.
[Jo...]
Are your nominals populated or typed in ? The 3d line looks skewed. I would toggle thru the results to see what angles pop up in actuals. Those are sourceed from the feature nominals. This is where 3d compound angles screw with you as well. Start by looking at A1, A2 values
[Za...]
Please sign in to view this quote. I typed the nominals in. The nominals were fairly close to what they should be, but I made them exact numbers. Just looking at the comparison from Tangent1 to Tangent2, all of those features are scanned at the same depth, however, they are conical, so the form may not be perfect. [Za...]
Please sign in to view this quote. I started doing the 2nd set of the same checks and here are what the nominals are:
[Za...]
I'm confident the tangents are set up correctly, based on the view of the 3d lines & tangents. I'm just worried about the accuracy of the scans because of these features being cones/circles on cones. I don't have the luxury of a drill with the same origin as my radius on the 2nd pattern and Calypso isn't liking my theoretical circle made from the origin of my circle on cone scan (the one I need to make my tangents). [Jo...]
Your Theoretical circle is selected as such ? If so the nominals and "actual" will be identical. You can temporarily make all three circles theoretical it it should populate a "result"THEO.jpgTEMP.jpgRESULT.jpg
[Za...]
The problem seems to be with the cone features... circle is okay to use, circle on cone is not apparently

[Za...]
While it's not the ideal way to obtain this measurement, I was able to use the method with the theoretical circle, but I had to take manual points on the min/max points of the radii that I needed and I was able to drag the point vectors to as close to nominal as I could visually get. I'm sticking with my original thought that the feature being at a 5º angle is what is causing most of the headaches here.
