[Ri...]
I'm setting up a brand new Fortis Prismo and I noticed some yellow stains on the Z mast. Is it a lube spray, it looks like something was sprayed around a circular object? I tried to wipe it down with a dry lint free cloth, didn't remove anything. Has anyone seen this before?Fortis Prismo yellow stain 1.jpgFortis Prismo yellow stain 2.jpg
[Je...]
Are you sure it´s new? Looks like oil. I´ve seen this in workshop conditions. When the axis doesn´t move and dirty air runs through the bearings it leaves this stains around the bearing. Have you tried to swipe it off with ethyl alcohol or something similar? [Ri...]
Its brand new, maybe the first Fortis in the US. Its doesn't appear to be an oil or liquid form. IMO, it looks like paint.
[Ri...]
The stain looks like paint but I now do not believe it is paint. I could not remove any material using a razor blade, seems like it is impregnated into the ceramic.
[Cl...]
Maybe this? https://www.mrceramicpart.com/knowledge ... -color.htm
[To...]
I don't know a whole lot about ceramic but I just read something about it being porous. I'm tending to agree with Jens that oil or some other liquid passed thru the air bearings and has been absorbed into the ceramic, like an oil stain on your concrete driveway. Maybe try harder with your razor blade...JUST KIDDING. DO NOT TRY THIS AT HOME OR WORK OR EVER...

[Ke...]
Check your air lines, based on the color and pattern the person from our hardware team I talked to was highly confident it is oil in the incoming air. To check, you can go to the filter box, open it up, grab the filters with a white kleenex. My guess is that the kleenex will be yellow as well. You should hopefully be able to clean the oil off the Z column with a lint free cloth and denatured alcohol. If you don't mind, send me the serial of the CMM, just because my hardware guy is curious
[Br...]
Do you know if it was it like this before air was applied? Maybe some residual oil in the supply lines that got shot through when the machine was hooked up. How do the X and Y axes look? Bar Keepers Friend works great on the ceramic beams, just takes a bit to clean off after.

[Ri...]
Please sign in to view this quote. X, Y axis are clean, this only appears on the Z mast. The second new Prismo (Not a Fortis) has no stains on any axis and it is hooked to the same air supply. These are side by side.
[Jo...]
Those have a ghost outline of a round shape.. maybe shipping brackets ??
[Ri...]
Please sign in to view this quote. I had thought of that first off, then I found all the shipping components and the brackets (Axis Clamp devices) are all square.
[Ju...]
Possibly from processing brackets that don't ship?

[Wa...]
I have good luck using Simple Green Foaming Crystal in the aerosol can. Non-staining and keeps all the plastics in good shape.
[Br...]
It’s no doubt those are witness marks from the air bearings. The shipping brackets aren’t near that part of the Z axis, plus the bottom of the quill is wrapped during shipment. What’s really strange is this happened with the Z near the top of travel. They are always shipped with the Z dropped down and tower disassembled. I guess it could have happened during production but I don’t know how that would have been missed during factory acceptance. [Je...]
Please sign in to view this quote. I´ve been around as a service technician for 19 years. Z- axis is mostly the first axis where oil drops off. Even in clean conditions many machines have oil stains on their Z- axis. But usually not the newer Zeiss machines, more likely the older ones. But of course it can be anything else. Have you reported this to Zeiss service? If it´s a new machine they have to care
[Ri...]
This has been reported to Zeiss. Not sure what they are planning.
[Je...]
Please sign in to view this quote. Kevin, This is a brand new Fortis. I think it is more likely to be caused by the manufacturing process from Zeiss or residual in new, oem air lines.
