vwnt.exe 32 bit ?

1st off, I don't know a lot about computers, graphics, memory, etc.
That said, I.T. just replaced the hard drive on the one I use the most and it's now slower than molasses, it didn't used to be.
When running curve and pi-web reports, the vwnt.exe 32 bit shows very high CPU usage and everything stalls for a bit. 😡
Didn't Calypso upgrade to 64 bit? Running version 2021.

Yes, yes it is. But, the real question is, "why?" 64 bit is loooooong overdue.

32-bit software is limited to addressing only 4 GB of RAM, while 64-bit software can theoretically address up to 18.4 million TB (terabytes) of RAM.

CALYPSO is 32-bit as of CY23. CY24 is being developed for full 64-bit.

Most of CALYPSO has been 64 for years except very specific areas that are mostly unneeded for processing optimization.

If your calculation time and CPU usage is excessive during Curve, be sure to adjust your Curve "Max Search Distance". My personal rule of thumb is 5x tolerance stack-up. So for a .200 tolerance zone in the base alignment I would go with a Search Distance of 1.00.
If you leave yours set to a default of 5mm and your evaluation 10-15k points per Curve with mutiple Curves with tight tolerances, your evaluation time will be significantly higher than necessary.

Thank you Kevin. The important factor that is easily overlooked from that article is that if multiple versions of CALYPSO are installed, EACH version of CALYPSO must be set individually. VWNT.ext as well ACIS.exe from any and all CALYPSO program file directories.

You say that now...I remember when we said that about 3.5" Floppy Disks, and 1mb/s internet download speeds and 1 GB Hdds...and 1 TB Hdds 🙂

Haha, so true. My first introduction to a computer involved waiting 45 minutes for a cassette tape to load programs onto a commodore 64 pc. If I fell asleep during this wait and missed the 30 second window to hit the enter key, I had to start all over. But man... playing that 8-bit snakes game on 64k of RAM was exhilarating.

I remember our first family computer had a sticker on it that said, "SPACIOUS 4GB Hard Drive!"

You should have bought a ZX Spectrum. It showed this nice psychedelic pattern of dancing stripes to keep you awake (or hypnotize you) while loading. 😃 127_6b00a614186a8afa865ca968a27c8517.png
