3rd Party Zeiss Calibration

Has Anyone ever used a 3rd party for their Zeiss Calibration?
I have always been told that Zeiss Mapping is proprietary and cannot be adjusted by any other software than what Zeiss uses.

Since our Exclipe has been End of Lifed by Zeiss we have gone to a third party. The party we used was not able to calibrate.

They did a very basic certification of "as is" condition. Not as thorough of a check. Half the price, and less than half the work. I would suggest getting a sample report to see if it meets your needs.

In my former life we used 3rd party "calibration" services, and they were horrible. They are not a calibration, they are a verification, and a poor verification at that.

I only know of one 3rd party "calibration" service that at least is able to reproduce a Zeiss Calibration Protocol, but as far as I am aware they are unable to make any corrections to any machines.

Most of these verification services lack the knowledge to accurately verify your machine as they just have a general verification that covers all of the CMMs that they service.

If you are looking for a long term cost save, invest in your own artifacts to verify & chart CMM squareness and roundness on a monthly/bi-monthly basis. You can use these results to extend your calibration frequency to, for example, 18 months (and get additional confidence in your month-to-month inspection results). This was an acceptabe solution at the ISO-17025 certified calibration lab that I worked at,

No longer in business and does not have mapping software.

Only certified ZEISS Service Techs and select ZEISS Distributors are qualified to modify the mapping files for a proper Calibration. All others are either not qualified or only performing an "as-found" which just reports the accuracy of the machine and no corrections are made.

As Keith said, you can perform these checks in a more routine manner using a step gage and ball bar yourself on a monthly basis to extend your calibration requirements.
