[To...]
A few years ago, we were making a demo block showing off the capabilities of a Yasda YMC430 machining center with sub-micron accuracies. The demo block was engraved with the letters YASDA raised up as follows, Y +5µm A +4µm S +3µm D +2µm A +1µm. Then, the letters YMC430 were recessed as follows. Y -1µm M -2µm C -3µm 4 -4µm 3 -5µm 0 -6µm I didn't have the model but I was curious what our Prismo Ultra would see. I created a BA, then created a plane with 4 points capturing all of the letters on the top surface. I revised the strategy to a grid with a 50µm step-over. End result collected over 150,000 points. The last picture shows the actuals magnified 9X. The moire effect makes it difficult to see all the letters from one angle, but if you look closely, you can see the second A on the top row at +1µm. Actually, after seeing the upload, I see the resolution drastically reduced. If you're using Chrome, right-click on any image, select Open image in new tab and the pictures should be very clear. [Th...]
I'm amazed Calypso can process that many points without just bursting into flame. With the stated 20k limit on curve entities, I'd figured that applied everywhere.

I didn't set out with a particular number in mind. I just set the distance to 0.050 and the magic happened...
[Ri...]
I wish I could show my largest computation, but it was for a huge tool for aerospace. It was nearly 500k points along a Free-Form Surface that had to be best-fit. It took nearly 8 hours to calculate the Best-Fit Alignment of the surface. Great use case for a remote subsequent evaluation PC (new in CY21). 20k point limit applies to 2d and 3d Curves. Its not a hard limit but definitely advised. Running a high end PC configuration will get you significantly better calculation time. Also setting your evaluation distance and fitting distances for curves and freeforms properly will SIGNIFICANTLY reduce calculation time. I've personally reduced extremely heavy curve calculation programs from 45+ minute evaluations in a production environment down to 4-5 minutes with proper settings. Zero loss of data.
