[Ty...]
Hey guys, im new to cmm programming/calypso. Ive taken the basic training but theres still some things im unsure of. I have a part that im programming and it has a .010" profile all around on it tied to 2 datums(one being a plane and the other being a cylinder) and its a circle part and majority of the dimensions are written as a basic, how would i go about at making the profile characteristic?? one guy here was talking about 2d curve but calypso wont let me select a 2d curve. Running on Calypso 2019 6.8 thanks for any help

[Ro...]
Do you have Free form? If so...... take all your cylinders and circles and lines and points that would define your part, open a free form feature. Under Nominal Definition, select recall feature points and select everything you need to define your profile. use that free form as your profile object and boom you're done. If you don't have free form, things will be difficult.hfjbdsfksbdvfskv.PNGdrewfkjbhsdkjibvfsdkjvbdfaskjbvdfks.PNG

The good news is that Calypso specializes in evaluating relationships between features. You will be able to establish the tolerance zone using the basic dimensions on your print. It will be important to make sure you are defining the datums in the precedence they are given on your print. You may or may not have to deal with curve depending on the part's geometry and the profile requirement. You mentioned that the feature being evaluated is mostly circular. Is it a shaft or other type of stepped cylinder? Are there any curved surfaces on the part that need to be evaluated? Also, is your profile characteristic all-around (one circle at the leader joint for this characteristic) or all-over (two concentric circles at the leader joint)? The downside is that the nominal geometry in a freeform in Calypso is entirely defined by the CAD model. So, a CAD model has to be available and needs to be accurate. Sometimes I will use freeform profile in Calypso, but usually only to visualize a part's geometry and not necessarily for the numerical result. Instead, I usually make section slices at intervals and evaluate these as curves.
